On Sunday, 21st May 2023, remarkable duo Ellie Deehan and her friend Annie Cole will be lacing up their running shoes to tackle the challenging Great West Run half-marathon in Exeter. Their mission? To raise funds and awareness for Football Against Dementia CIC, a Great Yarmouth based Community Interest Company that provides support to individuals and families grappling with the challenges of dementia. With compassion at its core, the charity harnesses the power of the football community to improve the well-being and quality of life of those impacted by this condition.
Ellie and Annie’s decision to support Football Against Dementia is deeply personal. Ellie’s beloved uncle and former Norwich City and Aston Villa player, John Deehan, and Ellie’s Grandma have both been in the battle against Dementia. Witnessing the condition first-hand, Ellie has been moved to act and make a difference in the lives of those affected by Dementia.
Ellie and Annie set an ambitious target of £400, but their incredible efforts have surpassed all expectations with an outpouring of support from friends, family, and other donors. The amount raised stands at £785 and counting.
Ellie and Annie’s determination which has led to exceeding their fundraising goal is fuelled by a deep sense of empathy and a desire to make a difference. Their compassionate efforts serve as an inspiration to others, highlighting the power of unity and collective action in the face of adversity.
“Myself and Annie really wanted to use the half marathon to support an important cause and in particular something that we felt connected to. I have sadly seen the terrible effects that dementia can have on people, with family and friends, including my uncle and my grandma, having been affected by the condition”
“Knowing the importance of support for those affected with dementia, as well as being an avid football fan, Football Against Dementia has become very close to my heart. We therefore wanted to support them and all the people they help by running the half marathon to raise money and awareness.”
