Dementia Friendly Lunches - last Tuesday of the month
Looking take a loved one living with dementia out for a lovely meal without having to worry to much ?
Hannah and Andrew founders of the Award winning Farmyard Restaurant located at 23, St. Benedict’s Street, in the heart of beautiful Norwich are delighted to offer ‘Dementia Friendly’ lunches on the first Tuesday of every month starting Tuesday 30th May 2023.
Andrew and Hannah cared for Hannah’s late Mum, Brenda, who sadly passed away from dementia and they both understand the challenges dementia can bring, and want to help. So why dementia friendly lunches ?
Hannah …. Well before my Mum had Dementia but also vitally, still during, she really enjoyed dining out in the lovely pubs and restaurants in Norfolk.
So when we set up Farmyard in 2017, two years after Mum passed away, it was really important to us that we provided some kind of offering for people living with Dementia, as well as the people caring for them.
Our Dementia Friendly lunches are really simple. They’re open to everybody but we just make sure that our team understand a little bit about what people might be going through on that day. We don’t use the word Dementia on our menus in case that’s upsetting to anyone. The ‘Memory Menu’ will include some photographs to help guide decision-making, our music is a little bit lower that day and a little bit less modern, our team know to not ask too many complicated questions and to talk just a little bit more slowly.
We run the lunch on the last Tuesday of every month between 12 and 2.30.
